Boston Preservation Alliance

The Boston Preservation Alliance is the city’s leading historic preservation advocacy organization. We work with a diversity of partners and constituents interested in balancing preservation of the city’s historic character with the city’s growth, evolution and vibrancy. Our supporters include individuals, organizations, other non-profits, and corporations across the spectrum of the real estate and design communities.

Development Associate
Professional Opportunity
Boston, MA

The Alliance seeks an enthusiastic, well-organized, and motivated individual to manage and guide the Alliances growing fundraising efforts as the organizations first dedicated development staff. The role includes managing membership, sponsorship, Annual Fund, and individual giving. Prospect identification and targeting, stewardship, and fundraising communication experience are key as we look to diversify and solidify an already growing base of support. Though oversight of our electronic database, Neon, is critical,
we seek someone who can bring greater structure and overall planning to our fundraising growth.

We require excellent writing and interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment as part of a small but dedicated staff, and the flexibility to manage periodic evening and early-morning meetings and events in this non-exempt, hourly position. We will consider candidates available from twenty hours per week to full time.

While an interest in our core mission to protect places, promote vibrancy, and preserve character is helpful, this position does not require historic preservation training or experience. However, a passion for the uniqueness of a city like Boston and a desire to share that enthusiasm is preferred. A candidate with experience, ideas and enthusiasm to enhance an already successful small non-profit will thrive.

Experience required in the diversity of strategies and sources of non-profit fundraising and prospect/membership-database management.  Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills are essential.

We require an undergraduate degree and prefer at least two years professional fundraising experience.

Each member of our small staff reports to the Executive Director and works closely with him, the board of Directors and committees to assure the successful operation of the Alliance. This job provides many opportunities for an enthusiastic and creative thinker who successfully balances day-to-day tasks with new ideas and an eagerness to help grow the organizations base of support.
