Architectural Historian

EBI is seeking to hire a full-time Architectural Historian in California in one of the major metropolitan areas of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, or Sacramento to prepare Section 106 and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reports. This position is based out of our Long Beach, California office, or from your home office dependent on location and experience.  Strong technical report writing skills and ability to conduct intensive archival and technical research is a must.  Prior working experience in Section 106 regulatory process and direct experience in preparing Section 106 compliance documents is preferred, but not required.  Applicants should be able to effectively communicate with EBIs employees and clients and work as part of a team.  The position typically involves approximately 50% field time and 50% office time.

Strong candidates will possess excellent report writing skills, computer and internet skills, excellent communication, time management and organizational skills. This position will require you to simultaneously manage electronic deliverables on many ongoing projects, as well as to complete assignments on-time and within budget. At times, travel on short notice (one week or less) will be required. This position will require travel throughout California and the surrounding states, as well as travel to other areas of the United States as needed based on workload. All related travel expenses are reimbursed.

Education and Experience:

  • M.A. in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Art History, History or other directly related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of related non-academic work experience preferred.
  • Experience with National Register of Historic Places surveys and nominations, and National Environmental Policy Act and California Environmental Quality Act assessments also preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, flexible and motivated.
  • Organized with the ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Registration Requirements:

  • Candidates must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural Historian.
