The Vanishing Treasures program supports the preservation of traditionally-built architecture throughout the Western United States, facilitates the transfer of traditional skills, and promotes connections between culturally associated communities and places of their heritage. The VT program operates in the Alaska, Intermountain and Pacific West Regions of the National Park Service, and makes use of a network of skilled technicians throughout the NPS and partner organizations to successfully address park needs. The Western Center for Historic Preservation acts as the technical preservation training and project arm of the Vanishing Treasures program and is located in Moose, WY.

Internship Opportunity

$ 12/hr Maximum 480 hrs

Works with preservation specialists at the Western Center for Historic Preservation, a preservation and education center located in Grand Teton National Park serving parks throughout the western United States. Work revolves around preservation project at the Murie Ranch NHL, Mormon Row Historic District and Menor's Ferry Historic District in Grand Teton. Duties include on-site preservation tasks such as log replacement, chinking, and re-roofing historic log cabins. Knowledge of hand and power tools and familiarity with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties is preferred. Basic computer skills are essential.  Candidate must be comfortable with physical labor and spending full days outside. Intern will be invited to attend and assist in 2-3 hands-on historic preservation workshops at the training center. Located in Grand Teton National Park. Park housing may be available.
