Architectural Historian, Full or Part Time

Pasadena, CA


ASM is seeking an Architectural Historian for the companys Pasadena, California office. The selected candidate is required to meet the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards in Architectural History; MA in Historic Preservation (or concentration therein) or Architectural History is preferred. A minimum of two years experience is required in which the candidate conducted archival research and building evaluations to develop historic contexts and site-specific building histories. Preference will be given to candidates with at least five years experience. Prior work experience  in California is also preferred, with demonstrated ability in preparing CA DPR forms and projects conducted in compliance with CEQA. Some travel is required (primarily throughout southern California, with only occasional overnight trips); reliable personal vehicle is required.  Compensation is commensurate with experience.

You will be expected to be a flexible, enthusiastic, proactive professional. As an Architectural Historian, you will be expected to perform efficiently in a team environment as well as working independently in a fast-paced environment. You will also be expected to work with minimal supervision under the direction of the Director of Architectural History and to provide technical support to Project Managers. Project work may include the following: documentation and recordation of historic properties; architectural surveys; historic context development, CRHR and NRHP evaluations; and effects determinations in compliance with CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA, as well as local regulations.
