Southern Four Corners Parks

The Southern Four Corners Group of Parks are located within the boundaries of the Navajo Reservation (NE Arizona and NW New Mexico). The parks are; Hubbell Trading Post NHS (know for the development of the Ganado Style Navajo rug), Canyon de Chelly National Monument (a lush canyon filled with ancestral pueblo and historic Navajo sites) and Navajo National Monument (a remote park with beautiful red rock canyons and cliff dwellings). These parks collaborate on cultural resource preservation and museum collections management.

This is an opportunity to experience three spectacular parks in the American Southwest while acquiring curatorial experience.  The museum technician will perform collection management activities (object relocation and rehousing, cataloguing, inventory) under the direction of the Curator or senior museum technician. The duty station is Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, where park housing is available.  Work will be performed in all three parks and will be require coordinating with cultural resource staff (archaeologists) at Canyon de Chelly and Navajo National Monument.  Work at Hubbell Trading Post will include assisting with managment of collections in the historic Hubbell Home and Trading Post.  Exhibition work will include participating in research for changing exhibitions and assisting with installation of temporary exhibitions and retrofitting cases to improve long term preservation.  

This is a seasonal (not to excede 1039 hrs) GS 7 position with the federal government which requires a Bachelors degree in an apprpriate discipline (Anthropology, History, Museum Studies, Art History) and two years of experience directly related to the tasks of the position or a Masters Degree in Museum Studies, Museum Sciences or Cultural Resources, Museum Conservation or a topical subject area with coursework in museum studies.  Preference will be given to candidate who have a current federal background/security clearance in place.
