The Main Street Executive Director will be responsible for development, conduct, execution, documentation and coordination of activities within Charlotte Main Streets downtown revitalization program that utilize historic preservation as an integral foundation for downtown economic development.  The Executive Director, as the principal on-site staff person, will be responsible for the coordinating volunteers, as well as representing the community regionally and nationally as appropriate.  In addition, the Executive Director should help guide the organization as its objectives evolve.


Applicants should have education and/or professional experience in one or more of the following areas: commercial district management, economic development, finance, public relations, business use planning, business administration, public administration, Main Street experience, volunteer or non-profit administration, retailing, architecture, historic preservation, and/or small business development. A bachelors degree is preferred.  


Applicants must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent setting.  Experience in developing trusted stakeholder relationships and working with boards is key.  Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.  Supervisory skills are desirable.
