Description The Town of Leesburg, VA (pop. 51,000+) founded in 1758, is one of Virginia's most attractive and vibrant communities. As the seat of government for one of the fastest growing counties in the United States, Leesburg has been successful at preserving its heritage while embracing the advantages of close proximity to Washington, D.C. Located 35 miles west of the nationís capital, the Town covers approximately 12 square miles. The Town of Leesburg, Thomas Balch Library, is in search of a summer intern that is looking for an opportunity to obtain practical experience in researching, interpreting and presenting local, social and architectural history by participating in planning, designing, and implementing a self-guided audio tour of downtown Leesburg.

$15.00 (Hourly Wage)
 
The main tasks of this internship will include assisting with research and identifying sites and events to be included in the tour, curation and design of tour content, identification methods for delivering tour content and promotion of the tour once created. The Intern may also assist in the creation of associated materials such as online maps, printed brochures, or other tools. Requirements Required Qualifications: Education: BA/BS in a related field (history; genealogy, archives; library science; historic preservation, architecture) Experience: Creating and delivering walking tours; podcasts, exhibits, or other such presentations; familiarity with mapping and GIS Familiarity with Microsoft Office, web-design and current tools for capturing and editing audio Preferred Qualifications: Education: Enrolled in an MA/MS program in historic preservation; tourism; history; public history or architectural history Experience: Public speaking; research in an analysis of primary sources and excellent writing skills Bilingual in English/Spanish Supplemental information: Working hours are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
