Minute Man National Historical Park

The National Park Service, Minute Man National Historical Park, in partnership with American Conservation Experience, a Nonprofit Conservation Corps, is offering an 8-month Natural/Cultural Resource Associate position. This opportunity is intended for a graduate with interest in advancing their career goals in natural and cultural resources management at Minute Man National Historical Park, located in Concord-Lincoln-Lexington Massachusetts. The park preserves and interprets the historic structures and landscapes associated with the opening of the American Revolution on April 19th, 1775; and fosters an understanding of the events, causes, and consequences of the American Revolution. The position will include official travel outside the office, therefore it requires the intern to possess a valid driver's license to drive federal vehicles. The position will include training at other parks throughout the Northeast.

This position will work under the supervision of the Natural/Cultural Resource Division Manager.  Primary duties include 

 

  • Assist with the preparation of management and maintenance plans for natural and cultural resources as well as resource management planning documents for funding requests

  • Prepare scopes and document treatment of exotic plants and replacement with native or historically appropriate non-invasive species

  • Implement projects with interdisciplinary teams, youth programs, and volunteers to improve the condition of natural and cultural resources

  • Collect data using GPS unit/tablet and compile resource data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to generate maps of resource conditions

 

 

Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing a degree) in natural or cultural resource management, landscape architecture, planning, biology, anthropology, archeology or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.  A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable. 

 

 Required:

 

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in related field

  • US Citizenship and between the age of 18 and 35

  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and personal vehicle

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to gather, organize, and interpret data and relevant source materials

  • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills

  • Ability to actively participate on interdisciplinary teams

  • Ability and willingness to undergo a Federal background check

  • Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions in summer, fall, and winter

 

 Preferred:

 

  • Strong desire to enter the public service field as a natural/cultural resource professional

  • Ability to prepare graphics using Adobe, AutoCAD, and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • Experience and/or knowledge in the mission of the NPS and other federal resource management agencies

 

 

The Associate must be a US citizen and willing to represent ACE and the NPS in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.  The Associate will undergo a federal background check. Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
