Salary: Ranges between $27.50-$30.00/hour, (Grade S-24) benefit eligible
Schedule: Part-Time, Exempt position scheduled for 30 hours per week.
PLANNER II Heritage Resources - Planning Division, Department of Planning and Zoning.
WORK DESCRIPTION: Serves as a heritage resources planner, and directly supports the department's work with the Architectural Review Board (ARB). Works closely with the senior heritage resources planner/ARB Administrator. Primary responsibilities include site research and preparation of staff reports for monthly ARB meetings. Assist with development of new process for staff review of projects in local historic districts. Attends ARB meetings and makes presentations to the ARB. Conducts plan and permit reviews following ARB approvals. Provides support to customers, and to applicants preparing applications to the ARB. Assists with multi-year update of design guidelines for local historic districts. Attends and makes presentations as needed to other county boards and/or community groups. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a heritage resources field; plus three years of experience in a heritage resources-related field. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in historic preservation, architectural history, historical architecture, or closely related field. Progressively responsible professional experience in heritage resources planning. Experience with project and design review in historic districts. Understanding of the role of local historic district regulations in land use planning. Experience performing research and writing technical reports for regulatory boards. Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and use of design guidelines in historic districts. Ability to handle multiple deadlines. Experience using word processing, database and GIS software. Experience working in a local government planning office and supporting public boards and commissions. Experience with Section 106 review, and local, state and national historic registers.

NOTE: Individual must be willing to participate in work assignments and meetings during the evening hours. Finalist may be interviewed by the Director, Planning Division.
