Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for the functions related to development review and enforcement, administration of public education initiatives, performing research, and working on special projects. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Essential Job Functions


  • Researches, collects, analyzes, and interprets data and summarizes data into report form.
  • Responds to department requests for information, as well as from the general public.
  • Responds to citizen complaints and provides follow up regarding building and code violations as it relates to the Historic Preservation Code and Certificates of Appropriateness and other related Unified Development Code regulations.
  • Coordinates investigative and enforcement work with City departments and the City Attorney's Office for enforcement in historic districts and landmarks.
  • Attends and makes presentations to neighborhood associations regarding review and approval processes.
  • Plans and coordinates special events and educational outreach programs.
  • Manages projects to completion with supervision.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in urban planning, historic preservation, customer service, or related field.
  • This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.  Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
