About Historic Macon Foundation Historic Macon Foundation, non-profit organization, is one of the nationís largest, most productive and most innovative local historic preservation organizations with over 500 member households in Middle Georgia and over 6,000 listed historic buildings in our stewardship. Since our founding in 1964, Historic Macon Foundation has served as the regional historical society and preservation organization of note. Our mission is to revitalize our community by preserving architecture and sharing history. Our vision is to be the premier preservation organization in the nation. Historic Macon saves Maconís architectural treasures by purchasing, rehabilitating and selling structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, Historic Macon educates the public about the importance of Maconís history and architecture, runs events to help celebrate Maconís unique assets, and operates the Sidney Lanier Cottage house museum. Our programs in economic development and neighborhood revitalization are award winners on a national scale and serve as a model for other preservation and revitalization organizations. The organization is staffed by nine full-time employees (including this position) and one part-time staff person, all of whom are vibrant, dedicated, fun and hardworking. The office atmosphere is fast-paced, multi-tasking, technology-oriented and highly collaborative. In August 2017, Historic Macon relocated its offices to a newly rehabilitated commercial building downtown. Employees are treated as professionals in their expertise; each staff person has the opportunity to lead and teach other team members and literally hundreds of volunteers who are interested in our mission. Job Description

The Director of Engagement plans and executes all fundraising events for Historic Macon and manages digital and print communication materials such as press releases, quarterly newsletters, and e-newsletters.

Additionally, the Director of Engagement is responsible for fulfilling our mission by using communication techniques to engage new audiences in historic preservation, advertise our success and growth, and to inspire the public to appreciate Macon through engaging events. This staff person plans and executes all fundraising and friend-raising events for Historic Macon, manages digital and print communication, and assists with general administrative tasks. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with staff, Board members, and numerous committee members and volunteers.

The successful employee will be creatives, well-organized, efficient, and able to multi-task. The employee will also be an excellent communicator and fluent in digital and traditional communication forms, including graphic design. We are looking for a team members who brings professional skills in marketing, communications, and event planning and who can assist in strengthening all aspects of our mission; including public outreach, fundraising, marketing real estate, event management, and increasing general awareness about our activities and success.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in planning and executing special events and fundraisers with a variety of stakeholders
  • Bachelors degree in mass communication, marketing, public relations or related field
  • Extensive computer, media, and web literacy
  • Knowledge of Abode Suite (or similar tools) and demonstrated experience with graphic design

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in the following is strongly desired.

  • SquareSpace (or experience in website maintenance using similar content management system)
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Constant Contact (or experience with similar email marketing site)
  • Social media (primarily Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

Performance Measures:

  • Meet fundraising goals for Historic Macons most well-known events, the annual Flea Market and Design, Wine and Dine, with the assistance of volunteers and committees -45% of job
  • Grow the digital audience for preservation information through weekly email newsletters, social media platforms, and website -15% of job
  • Improve the visibility and knowledge about preservation and Historic Macons activities in the community by securing weekly press coverage through print, digital, web, social, television, and radio media -15% of job
  • Successfully plan events that increase membership and build awareness of Historic Macons mission -10% of job
  • Use PR and marketing to recruit new members and to increase the number of attendants at educational, advocacy, and fundraising events -10% of job
  • Inspire appreciation for Macon and its historic architecture by expanding Historic Macons brand and marketing -5% of job
