The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including archaeologists, foresters, geologist, historians, historic preservationist, environmental scientists, and sustainability specialists.  The qualified candidate must be able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well-thought out and comprehensive manner. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis. 

 

Essential job duties will include:

 

  • Fieldwork to survey a variety of structure types
  • Documenting and evaluating historic structures
  • Writing property descriptions, historical narratives, significance statements, and National Register justifications
  • Section 106 effect evaluations
  • Prepare and analyze technical reports
  • Gather historical data from various sources, including archives, books, and artifacts
  • Analyze and interpret historical information to determine its authenticity and significance
  • Trace historical developments in a particular field
  • Engage with the public through educational programs and presentations
  • Archive or preserve materials and artifacts in museums, visitor centers, and historic sites
  • Provide advice or guidance on historical topics and preservation issues
  • Conducting or assist with background research and writing reports.

 

  • Organizing and completing field work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) is required. Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 regulations is preferred.
  • Experience working with local, state, and federal governments and government sponsored projects
  • The preferred candidate should enjoy working in the outdoors as required to complete job tasks
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the U.S. for brief (e.g., 1 or 2 week) work efforts
  • Archival and Museum Collections experience a plus but not required
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, research and writing skills a must

  • A Bachelor's or Masters Degree from an accredited school in Historic Preservation (or similar field)
