Preservation Idaho

Preservation Idaho (PI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve Idaho’s historic places through collaboration, education, and advocacy. Since 1972, PI has worked to protect historic places of significance to Idahoans. Under general direction and oversight from the board of directors, Preservation Idaho is seeking a Program Director to represent PI in the public realm and to grow existing strategies, programs, and committees by executing the PI strategic plan.

Initial Duties and Responsibilities:
With the objective of making Idahos history and its preservation relevant to a larger audience of residents, the Program Director must demonstrate a passion for history and competence in the following areas:

Work with the Board of Directors and committees to prepare annual strategic plans, operational budgets, project action plans, and funding methodologies

Serve as the face of the organization by responding to media and general organizational requests

Perform office administration duties of the day-to-day affairs of the organization

Attend monthly Board meetings, signature events, and serve as point person on partner committees as needed

Promote, oversee, and advocate for the activities of the organization

Provide accurate, timely communications and report to the board, committees, stakeholders, members, and volunteers

Manage an active and ongoing public relations program including posting events and relevant information on website, social media, publications, brochures, news releases, and public speaking opportunities

Research and prepare materials to support program and board activities as needed

Maintain knowledge of preservation programs and/or initiatives by establishing a working relationship with other preservation-focused organizations




Desired Qualifications:
A successful candidates will possess the following:

Strong commitment to historic preservation and/or passion for Idaho history

At least 2 years of proven leadership experience and program development in nonprofit / public sector environment

Familiarity with Idaho people, places and culture, business environment

Fundraising achievement

Demonstrated aptitude to motivate and bring together staff and team

Success in maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders

Effective, diplomatic, and courteous public relation skills

Strategic planning and implementation

Event planning and promotions experience

Creative problem-solving skills around complicated issues

Bachelors degree in relevant field of study (Historic Preservation, History, Public Service, Planning, Non-profit Management) with an advanced degree preferred
