King William Association

The King William Association, chartered in 1967, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. The mission is to “preserve and maintain the residential nature and support the preservation of historic structures of the King William Neighborhood and the diversity of its people.” The King William neighborhood was the first National Register historic district in Texas, designated in 1968. Within its boundaries are a designated state cultural arts district, three local and three national historic districts, as well as properties individually recognized for their historic significance, plus a vibrant commercial corridor. A 15-member Board of Directors is elected by the general membership each year and provides oversight of this $875,000 budget organization. The President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected from the Board membership. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and carries out the policies set forth by the Board. The KWA Board manages the numerous and varied activities, including preservation, educational, community, and cultural projects/events. The primary fundraising event is the King William Fair which was first held in 1968 and is now an annual officially-sanctioned Fiesta San Antonio © event. The Fair promotes the KWA’s mission and provides its operating support. In 2017 the King William Foundation was organized to solely assist the KWA in regards to alcohol sales for the King William Fair to be in compliance with TABC marketing rules.
