OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Museum Exhibit Specialist 1, working under the immediate direction of the Supervising Exhibit Specialist, assists with the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of museum exhibits located at the agencys historic sites and parks. Specific tasks performed by the Museum Exhibit Specialist include fabricating, assembling and applying finishes to custom-made display cases and exhibit furniture, producing custom mounts to hold museum objects, and installing exhibit lighting. The Museum Exhibit Specialist may also assist with creating audio-visual components for exhibit installations and installing exterior interpretive signs. Administrative tasks include assisting with procuring materials, including soliciting quotations, and routine maintenance/cleaning of exhibit shop tools and equipment.

The Museum Exhibit Specialist is expected to work collaboratively and professionally as part a team that includes curators, conservators, graphic artists, historians, and facility managers. The Museum Exhibit Specialist may interact with the public and must maintain professional standards of appearance and conduct.

NEGOTIATING UNIT: CSEA Operational Services Unit

JURISDICTIONAL CLASS: Non-Competitive

OPERATING NEEDS:

-Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in applying wood finishes to custom-made display cases and exhibit furniture, particularly spray lacquer coatings;

-Ability to work a standard Monday to Friday schedule (7:30am to 3:30pm);

-Ability to travel periodically, including occasional overnight stays;

-Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license as a term and condition of employment; 

-Must be physically able to lift at least 50 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Four years of museum production experience, with at least two years of experience concentrated in one of the production skill areas including cabinet making, diorama accessories, model making, photography, silk screening, or audiovisual production. A maximum of two years of appropriate training may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
