Job Summary:


The Architectural Historian provides expertise for historic building surveys, historic building mitigation, tax credit projects, SHPO consultation, and other historic building-related tasks. The Architectural Historian will provide historical research report for our in-house archaeology program. The position also involves reviewing documents and overseeing quality control on submittals and deliverables for client. Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and adapt a definite plus.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Conduct fieldwork (historic building surveys, architectural photography, building mitigation).

  • Conduct Section 106 work.

  • Research, write and edit building survey and mitigation reports.

  • Write historic structure reports.

  • Conduct deed research.

  • Assist in historic preservation tax credit projects.

  • Assist in developing memorandums of agreement and programmatic agreements for clients.

  • Conduct historic building mitigation (to include archival photography).

  • Research and write histories related to historic building surveys or historic building mitigation.

  • Research and write histories for archaeological investigations of historic sites.

  • Perform quality assurance/quality control on outgoing agency submittals and final deliverables for client.

  • Interpret local, state, and federal cultural resource regulations and requirements.

  • Consult as needed with community, Tribes, and SHPOs.

  • Perform multiple simultaneous tasks and site assignments.

Education and Experience Requirements:




  • Bachelors Degree in Art History, Architectural history, or Historic Preservation.

  • Excellent communication and computer skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Able to work within a team as well as independently.

  • Willingness to travel.
