The City of Jersey City is looking for a Historic Preservation Specialist to join a dynamic team of planning, graphic design, GIS, and historic preservation professionals who are responsible for comprehensively planning the growth of the second largest city in the state. Qualified candidates for this entry level position must hold a degree in historic preservation, history or another closely related field and be able to demonstrate the ability to apply the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties while reviewing applications for rehabilitations, alterations, additions, ordinary maintenance and repair as well as applications for new construction in our five historic districts. The preferred candidate must be an innovative team player who enjoys interaction with the public, possessing strong communication skills in writing and speaking. The ideal candidate would be able to handle administrative tasks as is necessary while being mentored by the two present Historic Preservation Specialists who serve the city. It will be expected that the new employee will be able to take on new tasks and responsibilities as needs arise and their skill set expands.
