Michael Baker International is seeking an innovative, business-savvy Cultural Resources Manager to lead our Pittsburgh Cultural Resources sub-practice.  The successful candidate must minimally possess a Four-year degree, but an advanced degree (M.A., M.S., PH.D.) is preferred in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Historic Architecture, Cultural Resources Management, or closely related discipline and have a minimum of 10 - 15 years of professional experience in the management of cultural resources in the private and/or agency sectors.  The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate superlative business and financial acumen as it relates to the continued expansion of Michael Bakers cultural resources practice. 




This individual will manage a staff of professionals who perform all aspects of cultural resources projects, from pre-field planning to final report preparation for a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.  Typical responsibilities include personnel management, project management for public and private development projects, and business development.  The Cultural Resources Manager will be responsible for finding and winning work, managing projects, mentoring and managing staff, and growing our cultural resource services.




The ideal candidate will have the ability to achieve efficient, profitable, timely, and technically excellent performance through effective team leadership, mentoring, training, and supervision.  The candidate must be able to demonstrate success in a senior management position (including demonstrable experience managing budgets, schedules, and multiple staff) while having frequent client and agency contact in a decision-making role.




The Cultural Resources Managers duties will include but are not limited to the following:


  • Grow and manage a diverse staff of cultural resources professionals

  • Establish and grow market presence through marketing and business development

  • Take the lead on client coordination, proposals, marketing, staff supervision, and project execution including meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards

  • Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly

  • Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff

  • Ensure the quality and integrity of the Cultural Resources teams technical products and the consistency of those products with client and agency standards

  • Supervise, mentor, and support staff in all aspects of their responsibilities, including on multi-disciplinary projects

  • Lead business development efforts and collaborate on and develop strategic growth opportunities

  • Lead and advance the level of technical expertise and performance for the Cultural Resources team

  • Other duties as assigned
