JUNIOR ASSOCIATE

Ogee is looking to hire a Junior Associate. The successful candidate will join a young and thriving historic preservation consulting firm that specializes in historic tax credit consulting. Ogee also works on National Register of Historic Places nominations, local historic zoning applications, historic resource surveys, and more. We are looking for a self-motivated applicant who exhibits enthusiasm to learn and improve. The successful applicant will have demonstrable knowledge and experience in the field of historic preservation, a passion for the subject matter, and a willingness to work in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment. Ogee will provide training to the successful candidate as needed.


LOCATION - Austin, TX

Ogee staff each work from home but meet up regularly to work in person.


SCHEDULE

Expectation of availability during regular business hours for most weekdays and availability for occasional overnight travel though Associate can generally set her/his own schedule. Ogee staff will arrange time each week to meet in person for work. Daily, 15-minute staff meetings via Google Hangouts are also required. Ogee values a flexible schedule and encourages staff to take time for exercise, personal time, and vacation.


PAY & BENEFITS

Pay will be commensurate with experience and on an hourly basis. This is an at-will contract position and the Associate is responsible for his/her own health insurance. Associate is eligible for performance and sales bonuses where applicable.


DUTIES

  • Archival research to support National Register nominations, historic resource surveys, and historic tax credit consulting

  • Occasional travel around Texas and the region, potential for overnight trips (food & lodging covered). Assist in site visit notes and photo mapping

  • Assist with historic resource survey field work and project coordination

  • National Register of Historic Places nominations

  • Historic tax credit application narratives (Parts 1, 2, & 3)

  • Track work hours and invoice the partners for payment on a monthly basis

  • Prepare photo documentation in Adobe Indesign

  • Miscellaneous marketing tasks including but not limited to social media, blog posts, and website updates (will be trained in this)


REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Graduate degree in historic preservation or closely-related field. Work experience may substitute for education where applicable.

  • Knowledge of National Register criteria and Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation

  • Experience with archival research

  • Experience drafting National Register nominations -- significance statements, building descriptions, etc.

  • Ability to travel, potentially overnight (no car required)

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and motivated worker, capable of working with little supervision and able to meet deadlines set by the partners

  • Access to a computer. Software will be purchased by Ogee as needed. Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs essential. Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop preferred. CAD skills a bonus.

  • Site visits will include working in dilapidated and under-construction buildings. Work boots are required and the Associate must be able and willing to traverse these sites with reasonable accommodations.
