Job Description

VDOT is seeking a qualified individual to plan and coordinate architectural history and/or historic engineering components of our regional statewide cultural resource programs. The selected applicant will apply project-level techniques, principles, and practices used in the collection and analysis of cultural resource data; determine effects of transportation projects on significant resources; and apply cultural resource management principles and techniques in the coordination of transportation projects. Coordinate with various state, federal, and other stakeholders; develop scope of work on projects, negotiate with consultants, and determine acceptance of completed studies in accordance with professional standards; and provide cultural resource component for district residency environment training.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Experience applying knowledge of federal and state transportation, environmental, and cultural resource statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of the Commonwealths cultural resources. Skill in the use of computers and software applications. Demonstrated ability to apply technical and scientific principles to the management of cultural resources in transportation projects. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers; to resolve complex environmental engineering problems and offer logical solutions. Education and experience in architectural history or history consistent with the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards for those disciplines. Valid drivers license required.

Preferred Qualifications

Substantive and demonstrable project management experience with a transportation focus in applying technical environmental principles and practices related to cultural resource management preferred

Special Requirements

Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Fingerprint based background check, references, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment.
