This management position will provide operational oversight to all eight State Historical Society of Iowa (SHSI) historic sites in Iowa.  Position will ensure that local operational agreements are in place each year; Negotiate annual operational budgets; Revise any 28E agreements, memorandums of understandings or memorandum of agreements with partners or local operators; Coordinates any contracts for services and repairs at sites; and effectively cultivate and coordinate with local governments, officials, tribal representatives and supporters in the communities where sites are located.
 
Position will assure that all sites are properly maintained and prepared for public visitation; Work with operators and site personnel to plan development activities at these sites; Seek opportunities for grants and other support for site activities in coordination with other SHSI initiatives; Plan for site major maintenance needs and prepare requests for major maintenance funding; See that planned maintenance and physical development activities are properly executed; and revise/prepare site management plans as necessary; and develop emergency response plans for each site and keep them current.
 
Position will ensure that established collections management practices are followed; Coordinate any collection conservation needs with SHSI conservator(s); Prepare or oversee preparation of interpretive materials including brochures, exhibits, guide training materials, or web-based interpretive materials; Monitor and make update to website materials pertaining to sites; and provide curatorial and collection assistance and expertise to special projects, exhibits or initiatives of the department.
 
Position will work with SHSI administrator to develop biennial budgets for the site program; Serve as supervisor for full-time, part-time and seasonal staff at sites; Perform human resources tasks for sites staff including approval of leave time, performance evaluations, recommendations for open positions along with any other related HR activities; and provide training to staff as it relates to sites interpretation, exhibition, customer service, building maintenance, etc.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to four years of full-time work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
2) Eight years of full-time work experience in program administration, development, management, or operations.
3) All of the following (a and b):
a. Four years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
4) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Two years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience; and
c. A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is
also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Public Service Supervisor or comparable specific management-level position.
