Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) seeks qualified part-time and/or full-time Architectural Historian intern(s) from August 2019 - July 2020.  ANC intern(s) to support on-going and upcoming projects at ANC, our nation's premier military cemetery and shrine, and the Soldiers and Airmen Home National Cemetery.  The successful candidate will be familiar with historic construction methods and historic preservation philosophy, including the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.  Will assist with the completion of National Register nominations, annual preservation reports and on-going research, documentation and treatment projects of historic structures in the cemetery.  Tasks may include preparation of Section 106 submission for state and public reviews; assistance with developing a Cultural Resources Management Database, and reviews of studies produced for ANC by others.  The position start times are negotiable.  Intern(s) will report to the Cultural Resources Manager at ANC. Based in Arlington, VA, in the ANC Engineering Division, Cultural Resources Management.  All work will be performed on National Register properties.  (1200 hours at $18/hr)

Requirements: (1) Actively pursuing a graduate degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or closely related field; (2) Familiarity with historic architecture and landscapes, ideally with monumental architecture, funerary and cemetery designs; (3) Understanding of the National Register of Historic Places nomination process, as well as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; (4) Ability to work well independently and in a team environment that includes engineers, planners, architects, and environmental specialists; (5) Solid research, technical writing, and communication skills; (6) Strong attention to detail when authoring and reviewing work; (7) Fluent with Microsoft Office; and (8) Drivers License and clean driving record.
