The Tulane University School of Architecture is seeking qualified candidates for its Director of Preservation Studies at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This position will contribute to the development of our research agenda in the area of preservation, while supporting our educational mission in the teaching of preservation design studios and other related courses. The selected candidate for this position will play a critical role in the definition and development of school and university-wide research initiatives, collaborating with programs at the school, other schools and centers at Tulane, and with organizations beyond the university.
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Successful candidates for this position will have a masters degree in Preservation or the equivalent in related fields and extensive innovative professional experience and/or a post-professional masters or doctorate degree. Candidates with education and/or professional experience in architecture and urban planning in addition to preservation are preferred. Ideal candidates will have research interests in preservation in relation to climate change, disaster resilience, sustainability, and cultural and social equity.
Candidates for this position should be accomplished preservationists with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in the design studio and in seminar and/or lecture/lab courses in their area(s) of expertise. Furthermore, candidates are expected to vigorously pursue an agenda of high-profile research, writing, and creative production.
Candidates are expected to have strong leadership and management skills that will qualify them as Director of Preservation Studies. Candidates should exhibit a high level of expertise in preservation and a commitment to innovative curricula. Faculty members at Tulane School of Architecture are expected to teach; work with the faculty, the dean, and other departments at Tulane to develop curriculum; contribute to cross-disciplinary research initiatives, and engage in service through a range of academic committees.
