National Council for Preservation Education

Internship Program

Tips for Completing Your Application

  1. Due to heightened national security concerns, some positions may not be available to non-U.S. Citizens. Most positions require a background check. If your are concerned that this will affect your eligibility, please contact Guy Lapsley, Guy_Lapsley@nps.gov, or Michael Tomlan, mat@cornell.edu.
  2. Download the most current version of Adobe Acrobat. This will allow you to save the information that you enter into the PDF form.
  3. Do not submit a separate application for each position. Simply indicate multiple positions on your application form.
  4. If you need to convert your transcripts into PDF form and do not have access to Adobe Acrobat Professional, make use of a free online PDF creator: https://www.pdfonline.com/convert_pdf.asp
  5. You may also combine the files using the free PDF creator. Name the file [your last name]_fall08.pdf or [your last name]_sum09.pdf, according to the term for which you are applying.
  6. Do not submit materials other than those requested (i.e. no portfolio, resume, or writing sample is required).
  7. If you are submitting your application via "snail mail", do not staple materials (this makes them difficult for our staff to scan).
  8. To inquire about the status of your application and for any other questions regarding the internship porgram, you may contact the PreserveNet Staff directly at preservenet@cornell.edu.

To expedite processing of your request and allow for faster review of your application, please scan your materials electronically and email them as a single Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file containing both signed application and transcripts to Michael Tomlan at Cornell University (email: mat4@cornell.edu).

If electronic submission is not possible, all application materials should be mailed to:
