Lime is Key to Long-Term Historic Masonry Conservation: Lecture & Interactive Walk
Aug. 10, 2018; 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion
200 W. Tulpehocken St., Philadelphia, PA

The Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion will serve as the backdrop for homeowners, preservation advocates, and restoration specialist to make the lime connection. LimeWorks.us founder Andy deGruchy and conservation mason Chris Hertz will discuss the science behind breathable lime mortars while leading an interactive walk around the mansion exterior. Find out the potential causes of brick and stone deterioration; the importance of matching existing mortar and joint profiles where encountered in historic projects; and how to recognize inappropriate, incompatible, and uncomplimentary masonry repairs. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and bring a small mortar sample to receive a recommendation on matching materials. Light refreshments will be served and attendees may wander through the Victorian gardens and take a guided tour of the mansion interior as time permits.

* Take the guesswork out of your search for the right materials to fit your purpose by talking directly to our pros.
* Gain an enhanced understanding of the built environment, greater appreciation of historic sites, and recognize the high level of craftsmanship that defines the masonry trade.
* Network with like-minded history buffs and restoration enthusiasts and take part in the conversation.

Together, we're saving the structures and stories of the past and writing the future.
