New Certificate Program in Historic Preservation Trades Technology

Ivy Tech Community Colleges Madison campus, in partnership with Historic Madison, Inc., and the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana introduce a new certificate program called Historic Preservation Trades Technology, available at Ivy Tech Madison, Indianas campus as well as abroad through online distance education beginning fall 2009 semester. Madison, Indiana- a National Historic Landmark City is located in the most southern region of Indiana on the Ohio River.

The new Historic Preservation Trades Technology program is offered through Ivy Techs Workforce and Economic Development Department. Students in this program can enroll in five courses to complete a Career Development Certificate. Courses offered for credit include: Introduction to Historic Preservation (classroom and online), History of American Architecture, Building Materials and Technology, Project Management, Maintaining Historic Structures, and Field Site Experience. Students in Historic Preservation Trades Technology can be a part of the growing historic preservation field. Skilled craftspeople are needed in all areas of the historic trades throughout Indiana as well as in other areas of the United States.
