From October 23-25, the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, a non-profit organization, in collaboration with Urban Diaolgues and the Town of East New Market is hosting a community design project entitled place work[s]hop in East New Market in Dorchester County, Maryland. Its designed to serve the small towns of the Eastern Shore through an interdisciplinary, affordable, and empowering design process. We are looking for volunteer experts with professional experience in preservation, architecture, and planning, and/or skills in graphic modeling, drawing, and GIS to facilitate small group discussions with town residents about the community's needs and respond to important questions they face.
East New Market is a rural community with approximately 160 residents located in the southern region of the Eastern Shore. The community has an excellent historic core, however the recent economic recession and other factors have led some of historic buildings into a state of disrepair. Place work[s]hop will be an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals to work with rural community in preserving its unique heritage.
Meals including dinner on Friday and lunch and dinner on Saturday will be provided. For more information about place work[s]hop contact Jacob Day, Town Planning Manager, Eastern Shore Land Conservancy jday@eslc.org
