A preservation success story is comprehensively told in the recently published The Dome in the Valley: The History and Rebirth of the West Baden Springs Hotel. Established in 1855, the southern Indiana hotel became one of America's premier watering-hole grand resorts in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Closed in the depths of the Great Depression and surviving reuse as educational institutions and later ruinous deterioration, the extraordinary domed hotel--once the largest dome in the world--has been beautifully restored and again operates as a grand resort. One preservation authority calls the book "...a monumental piece of work befitting the monumentality of the hotel and the West Baden story." Information on the book and comments by other preservationists can be found at www.domeinthevalley.com
